6 Ways to Beat the Summer Slowdown Like a Boss

While there’s a lot to love about the summer, summer also means slower days in the salon. As we head into August and close off summer, GlossGenius has come up with a few ideas for you to make sure your business shines in August!  

Here are some fun ways to beat the summer slowdown and fire up your business!

1. Partner With a New Business

Is there a coffee shop you love next door? Do you know another beauty professional who offers complimentary services to yours and who could also use a business boost? Partner up and run an August promo together! For example, if you’re a hairdresser you might offer customers who get a trim a $5 coupon at the nail salon nearby and vice versa. If you don’t know anyone, don’t worry. Here’s all you need to do: 

  • Take a moment and think about businesses around you. The first start with other beauty businesses that offer different services than you. Are you at a salon suite? A booth? A busy area of town? Jot down a few ideas down!
  • Grab some business cards. Don’t have business cards? Print out a few small flyers. Here’s an idea of something you can easily make and print!
  • Alright, suck it up and just walk in! Walk into a few of the businesses you wrote about and introduce yourself. Start the conversation with something like: “Hey, I’m [Your Name]. I run a[hair, nail, spa, waxing, barbershop, etc.] studio around the corner and I’m looking to partner with other businesses I love in the area to refer clients during August. Would this be something you might be interested in working on? I’d love to collaborate with you”

Once you’ve found a partner, getting started is easy: all you need to do is place their cards in your studio, and they’ll place your cards in their studio! Now you’ve got great marketing going on in front of clients that could be great buyers of your services.

2. Run an August Special

End of summer means time to primp up and get ready for Fall! Whether it’s a sun recovery facial,  a back-to-school haircut, or a summer-themed coconut-lime mani-pedi, running an end of summer special will remind clients that they need to book you. You can offer a discount or a special offer on a related product if they book a particular service, run packaged  deals, or provide a discount for certain services. There is so much room to have fun with your August specials!

3. Showcase Your Openings on Social Media

When school is out and business slows down, this means your clients are spending more time scrolling through social media and you need to make sure you are staying top of mind!
