BRAINS BEHIND THE BIZ: Esther, Intern
Introduce Yourself: Hi! My name is Esther and I’m a junior at Princeton University studying Computer Science. I’m originally from Houston, Texas, and in my free time, I love hanging out with friends and playing with my two dogs, Taylor and Buddy. I spent the summer in New York interning at GlossGenius, and the experience was a blast!
Why GlossGenius? After taking a few courses in entrepreneurship at school, I became increasingly interested in working for a startup, and I jumped at the opportunity to apply to a startup through the Princeton Startup Immersion Program. While there were a number of other startups on the application page, I was quickly drawn to GlossGenius. For the application, I had to complete a “challenge,” and writing up my solution to GlossGenius’s challenge was easily one of my highlights for that week! Speaking with Danielle for my interview only excited me more about GlossGenius because I could clearly see her passion, and this internship has been nothing short of that.
What do you do at GlossGenius? I’m formally a Business Development Intern with GlossGenius. Karim and Danielle were incredible with allowing us to work in multiple areas. Along with developing product features, I also worked on the White Glove tool, coding up scripts to help with customer experience, and implementing a social media strategy. It was so cool to be able to try my hand at new things and see the impact they have on the business!
Fave GlossGenius Feature? GlossGenius is full of amazing features, but if I had to pick, I’d go with GlossUp (our text message marketing feature)! While simple, it’s an incredibly effective tool for professionals to use, and I think this quality readily applies to other GlossGenius features as well. There are so many amazingly helpful yet surprisingly simple to use tools within the app that give professionals flexibility and ease with running their businesses!
Beauty obsession? Loving caramel-blonde balayages! Especially for summer, I think these colors complement each other to provide more dimension and a beautiful, sunkissed look :)
Best Advice Danielle Has Given You? Danielle has given so much amazing advice, and it’s definitely hard to pinpoint which was the best! I particularly liked when she shared that belief in yourself and conviction in what you’re doing will always be your strongest guiding light. It’s easy to get concerned with what you see happening around you or what people are telling you about what you’re doing, but grounding yourself in what you believe you’re doing is ultimately what keeps you going each and every day. This is something that I definitely want to hold myself to since there are so many times when people unfortunately give up on projects/ideas prematurely.
